We’ll pull out every policy, limit and date, then check it against the requirements on the left — additional insured, waiver of subrogation, and expiration included.

What the ACORD 25 checker looks for

  • General liability each-occurrence and aggregate limits, and whether you’re shown as additional insured.
  • Auto, umbrella and workers’ comp — present, with limits that meet your requirements.
  • Waiver of subrogation where you require it — what that means.
  • Certificate holder name and every required policy’s expiration date.

How to use it

  1. Open “Your requirements” and set the limits from your subcontract (or keep the common defaults).
  2. Upload the certificate — a PDF from the agent works best; a clear phone photo also works.
  3. Read the result. Anything flagged is something to ask the sub’s agent to fix.

Prefer to type values in yourself, or checking a certificate you can’t upload? Use the manual certificate of insurance checker. Not sure what each box on the form means? See the annotated ACORD 25 sample.

The ACORD 25 at a glance

The ACORD 25 lists the producer (the agent), the insured (your sub), the insurers, and a coverage table with each policy’s number, dates and limits. Two narrow columns — ADDL INSD and SUBR WVD — show whether the agent indicates additional insured status and a waiver of subrogation for that policy. At the bottom are the certificate holder and a cancellation notice clause.

The form itself says it’s issued as a matter of information only. That’s why checking it isn’t a one-time job: policies renew on different dates, and the certificate you checked in March can be out of date by June.

FAQ

Common questions.

  1. 01

    What is an ACORD 25?

The ACORD 25 is the standard certificate of liability insurance form used in the US. Insurance agents issue it to show that a business carries general liability, auto, umbrella and workers’ compensation coverage, with the carriers, policy numbers, limits and dates.

  2. 02

What does this free checker do with my file?

It reads the certificate with AI to extract every policy, then checks the result against the requirements you set. The file is processed in memory and discarded — it isn’t saved to an account or shared with anyone else.

  3. 03

How accurate is the AI reading?

Clean PDFs from an agent are usually read accurately; blurry photos and handwritten edits are harder. The checker reports only what it can read and leaves anything illegible blank, so always glance at the extracted limits before relying on the result.

  4. 04

How many certificates can I check for free?

A few per day. If you check certificates regularly, Certy reads every COI your subs send, keeps them on file, and reminds subs before anything expires.

  5. 05

Can I fill out or create an ACORD 25 here?

No. Certificates must come from the insured’s own insurance agent. Ask your sub to have their agent send one — and run it through this checker when it arrives.

  6. 06

Does a compliant certificate guarantee coverage?

No. A certificate of insurance is informational and doesn’t change the policy. For important contracts, also collect the additional insured and waiver of subrogation endorsements.
