Pest Control subcontractor insurance requirements
Separate routine treatment, fumigation, wildlife removal and inspection reports. Chemical use, building occupancy and service warranties should be explicit in the scope.
Start with your agreement, the work scope and the applicable state workers’ comp rules. Collect current policy evidence and the endorsements your agreement requires. A certificate summarizes information; it does not resolve every exclusion or condition.
Scope details that change the review
Chemical application
Drift or exposure can affect occupants and neighboring property.
Professional findings
Inspection reports and treatment recommendations may create service-failure questions.
Special methods
Fumigation and wildlife work can differ materially from routine spraying.
Questions for the contractor and agent
- Does the policy scope include the actual chemicals and treatment method?
- What evidence addresses professional reports or warranties required by the agreement?
- Are relevant licensing, pollution terms and subcontracted services checked separately?
Documents to collect
- GL, auto and workers comp evidence
- Relevant professional or pollution evidence when required
- Applicable licensing and required endorsement records
Compare policy dates and limits against the signed requirements. Check the actual endorsement wording when the requirement depends on insured status, a waiver or the scope of operations. Keep unknown items pending and record the reviewer responsible for resolving them.
A hypothetical review
A routine pest vendor is asked to fumigate an occupied-building section. The manager obtains the revised method, occupancy plan and relevant insurance evidence before accepting the original service approval.
Renewals and scope changes
Review chemical, treatment-method and reporting-duty changes during the service term.
Choosing limits
These review questions do not establish a universal legal minimum for this trade. Owner contracts, project size, operations and applicable licensing rules can change what is required. Use the requirements generator for an illustrative starting schedule, then have the authorized risk owner and broker approve the actual requirements.
